Exhibition brings a taste of the Games
Hong Kong will be get a taste of the Olympics Games without waiting for the equestrian events to arrive in the city this summer. An Olympic Treasure Exhibition China Tour, with 731 pieces from the International Olympic Committee Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland, will be displayed at the Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai from February 15-18, with free admission.
Exhibits will include a set of torches and medals, mascots and stamps from each previous Olympics, with selected artwork, souvenirs and audio-visual items to showcase the development of the ancient and modern Olympics, which were inaugurated in Paris in 1896.
The tour started in Beijing in August at the one-year countdown ceremony, and Hong Kong is one of 13 Chinese cities to host the exhibition.
'It is the first time that an exhibition on such a big scale has been held outside Europe,' said Pan Xinsheng of the Beijing Organising Committee of the Olympic Games.
'We hope it will help Hong Kong citizens experience the Olympic spirit of excellence, respect and friendship and share the honour of the Olympic Games being held in the motherland.'
Some 50,000 tickets will be available at public inquiry service centres of the Home Affairs Department. Another 150,000 are reserved for groups such as schools and charities. Interested parties can call 2831 1787.
