Ballet puts on sparkle to raise funds

The Hong Kong Ballet hosted a fund-raising ball entitled 'Jewels' on January 19 at the InterContinental hotel ballroom.

Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs Carrie Yau Tsang Ka-lai was among some 450 guests, and the ballet company raised more than HK$8 million in an auction for prizes such as jewellery from Van Cleef & Arpels, an Andy Warhol print of Marilyn Monroe, deluxe trips to Phuket and prizes from MGM Grand Macau. Flora Cheong-leen and her husband, Russell Wong, emceed the event.

The room was transformed into an opera house, and chairman John Ying invited Yau to open the dance floor. Also supporting the cause were Cissy Pao Watari, Stacey Morse, Stephen Bradley, Christina Lee and Bonnie Gokson.
