Bosalevski poised for Davis Cup role

Hong Kong Davis Cup captain Derek Ling is expected to give Goran Bosalevski a singles berth against Indonesia in Jakarta next weekend.

Bosalevski is the only new face in the five-strong squad, which leaves on Sunday morning for Jakarta for the February 8-10 opening round encounter. While Bosalevski is likely to play in the singles, Ling has not settled on his final line-up.

'I have still not decided who will play the singles and who will feature in the doubles as yet. It will be a tough choice as the competition is quite high. I have until next Wednesday when the draw will be done,' non-playing captain Ling said.

It will be a toss-up between Bosalevski and Yu Hiu-tung, who are the two players fancied to play the opening singles, and Michael Lai Xiaopeng. The other two players in the squad are Martin Sayer and Dino Dellorto.

Dellorto is expected to be left out when Ling names his final team 24 hours before the tie starts. This will be the first time Bosalevski represents Hong Kong, but it won't be his first taste of Davis Cup action. He represented Macedonia in 1999.

'That was a long time ago. Now I'm resident here and I'm looking forward to playing for my new home. It is good to be back playing Davis Cup tennis again,' Bosalevski said.

The 29-year-old, who recently completed his three-year residency qualifications, won all three major Hong Kong titles last year.

'Apart from Goran and Yu, the others are also pressing their case. If I have a chance, I will spread the work load around. But that depends on how we perform,' said Ling.

Hong Kong have met Indonesia in Davis Cup competition for the past three years and have lost on all occasions.
