Robot mice usher in Year of the Rat

Six award-winning robot mice have arrived in Hong Kong from Japan to celebrate the Year of the Rat. They are competing in maze-solving contests in a shopping mall at Sha Tin.

Micro mice are autonomous robots; they are one of the oldest robotic forms but are equipped with the latest technology in Japan. During the competition, they have to find their way themselves to the centre of a maze.

While micro mouse contests are very popular in countries like Japan, Singapore and the UK, this is the first competition of its kind to be held in Hong Kong. The six micro mice attending were the winners of a competition in Japan last year.

They made their debut on Wednesday at the New Town Plaza, and are taking part in competitions until tomorrow.

The organisers have also shipped a humanoid robot from Japan called RB2000 for a lion dance and cheering performance, which will be staged between until tomorrow.
