Lenovo taps Ericsson for mobile broadband modules on ThinkPads

Lenovo Group, the world's fourth-largest personal computer maker, has secured a deal with Swedish telecommunications equipment maker Ericsson to install mobile broadband modules on select ThinkPad notebooks from this year. Financial terms were not given. The High-Speed Packet Access-based modules will enable wireless download rates of up to 14.4 megabits per second. Bien Perez

China Mobile to use Gemalto technology for high-end services

China Mobile will use technology from Dutch supplier Gemalto to provide multimedia subscriber identity module (SIM) cards to its premium subscribers. The project, the financial terms of which were not disclosed, is being implemented in Guangdong, Shanxi, Beijing, Jiangsu and Shanghai. It is the first large-scale use of multimedia SIM technology in Asia for Windows Mobile-based handsets. Bien Perez

Netcom links with Northport for photo-processing kiosks

China Netcom Group Corp, the mainland's No2 fixed-line telecommunications service provider, and the Dalian-based subsidiary of United States firm Northport Capital will run a network of digital photo-processing kiosks in Liaoning province. As part of the deal, 300 Colorstar digital photo-processing units from Northport will be installed in China Netcom-linked internet cafes. Bien Perez

Outblaze partners Turner in online social networks venture

Hong Kong-based Outblaze, the world's largest online service platform for e-mail, collaboration, security and social media services, and Turner Entertainment Holdings Asia-Pacific will form a joint venture for online social networks based on Cartoon Network's brands and characters. The new company, Turnout Ventures, will offer services such as blogs, games and instant messaging. Bien Perez
