Step into your fanciest pumps and dance the cold away

The Salsa Festival is now in full gear and although the weather is not exactly co-operative, organisers Quick Step Productions is still taking the Latin rhythms outside tonight. They're hoping to again throw one of the biggest salsa street parties on the Avenue of Stars promenade from 6pm. There'll be dance demonstrations, instruction and a free-for-all party, so everyone can join in for some cha-cha as well.
Incidentally, if it's a little too cold and windy to wear your Miami mini-dress on the boardwalk, the fest is also hosting a Valentine's Day bash at Lan Kwai Fong's Q97 tonight. It features Putumayo recording artist Laurent Hounsavi plus Brazilian dancers, and international bachata dancing superstars Tony Lara and Daniela De Francesco. For only HK$150, it's not a bad excuse to do some dirty dancing.
The festival's main event is tomorrow night's Asian Salsa Open Championships at Room 401 of the Convention and Exhibition Centre from 8pm. For more details, contact 2203 0414 or www.hksalsa festival.com.
