Gregory leap ahead in House dash

OVER 300 students took part in the 10th annual sports day of Yu Chun Keung Memorial College No 2, held over two days at Wong Chuk Hang Sports Ground.

The heats were held on the first day, and the finals took place three days later.

The meet began with a morning prayer, led by school supervisor Father Denis Hanly. Principal Teresa Lo Mo-kit gave a speech to encourage the athletes, and Form Six student Jason Chan received the pledges of athletes taking part.

The meet saw two days of keen competition in over 100 events. Guest-of-honour Paul Lee Kai-yu, head of the Student Affairs Office at the Hong Kong Polytechnic, presented the prizes, the first going to the Gregory House cheering team.

The best Houses in Grades C, B and A were Gregory, Leo and Gregory, respectively. Gregory also won the overall award, beating Leo by a thin margin.

Chief guest Mr Lee gave a speech and was presented with a souvenir by the principal.

The Students' Union president thanked all present for their help and co-operation in making the sports day a success.

Two school records were broken. Athletes were congratulated for their contribution, and those who failed to win awards were encouraged with the words: ''There is always next year.''
