A new environment full of English
English is an international language.
It has become more and more important because so many people around the world speak it and understand it.
There are many ways in which we can improve the standard of our English.
At school, teachers can select students to be English prefects who can encourage use of the language on campus. This can help their schoolmates develop the confidence to speak English properly.
At morning assembly, teachers can explain the importance of English and suggest a reward plan, which will give an extra incentive to learners.
The library can buy more books and introduce exciting stories written in English.
If the students are interested, they will enjoy learning English.

Optimism is the key to success
There is a lot of hustle and bustle in the world nowadays.
Everyone seems to be under a lot of pressure at work or at school.
Many people have no idea how to relax. They get so worked up about their problems that mental illness, and even suicide, can be the result.
That is why it is always best to be optimistic. Medical research shows that people who have a positive outlook are healthier and live longer than those who are depressed.
If we want to be more optimistic, we should not force ourselves to work late or at the weekends.
Instead, we should make sure that we get enough sleep at night and spend time with our families at weekends.
It is also very important for our health to get plenty of exercise, like hiking and taking part in sports activities.
Participating in weekend activities also helps us to express ourselves, which always makes us happier and can introduce us to new friends.
Finally, we should always try to look at the funny side of things.
Optimism is the key to success.
Without optimism, we cannot recover from failure.
We should believe in ourselves and be more optimistic. Then we can achieve anything.

An accident that I can't forget
Do you love your family members or do you think they are annoying?
Four years ago, I thought my uncle was a meddlesome and irritating person, but after he was involved in an accident, I began to regard him as someone I should treasure very much.
I still remember the day before my uncle had his accident. I was really naughty, and I played tricks on him and didn't care if I hurt his feelings.
The day after the accident happened, when I knew that he was in hospital, I was really frightened. I was scared that I would lose him and never see him again.
When I arrived at hospital, the doctor said that children were not allowed to go into the ward. My sister and I cried. We were very worried about our uncle.
When he was in hospital, I prayed for him every day. I realised then that all he ever did was care for me. I remembered the silly things I did before he was ill and thought that they were really childish.
Fortunately, he recovered his health. After the accident, I felt a greater love for my parents and I promised myself that I will do everything I can to take care of my family.

Active in English
I think tvnews.hkedcity.net - the free online, self-access English learning platform for secondary school students - is very useful.
It allows students to practise, to do academic exercises and to become more active in learning the language. The programme has attracted a lot of students.
I think this educational resource will benefit young learners because it will reduce anxiety in the classroom and help develop a love for the language.
Business and commerce are conducted in English all over the world so it is very important to learn the language.

Let's be happy
You should not take things too seriously if you want to be happy.
Life is short. If you are always worried, you cannot be happy. If you have problems, don't think in a negative way.
Some people think that if you want to be happy, you need lots of money, a big house and many cars.
But the true path to happiness is to learn to be content with one's lot.

Be a responsible fan
Have you ever spent hours waiting for a famous star at the airport? Screamed wildly at his concerts? Or collected every possible thing about him? If so, you are probably an idol worshipper.
This comes as no surprise these days as many teenagers are infatuated with entertainers or sports personalities.
Parents should understand that young people need to release their tension.
So having a favourite person is not a bad thing after all.
However, youngsters should understand that the real star is not the beautiful face or voice, but that person's virtues.
Besides, students should spend more time on their studies. It's not wise to confuse reality with imagination and neglect their responsibilities.
