Grand Vefour's win by a mile

GRAND VEFOUR (Nap) has improved with each of his runs this season to make him a worthwhile bet in this afternoon's sixth event at Sha Tin.

The grey's Topspeed figures have been getting better and better all the time and he put up a particularly noteworthy effort at Happy Valley last time when fourth to Crown Commander.

He came there with a big chance at the top of the straight but by all accounts didn't really see out the 1,800 metres.

The drop back in distance to a mile should suit him ideally and he could be at decent odds, too, as China Cruise and Wonderful Way are likely to attract plenty of support.

The same can be said of Full Speed Ahead who is also sure to be well backed with Gerald Mosse on board.

But China Cruise didn't record a particularly impressive speed figure when making a winning debut and Full Speed Ahead has yet to rate highly against the clock.

This leaves me a little wary of their form though China Cruise does have scope for improvement, after all he has won all three races he's contested.

- two in New Zealand and one in Hong Kong.
