Son of CPPCC delegate denies murdering mother

A CPPCC delegate's son who has been charged with murdering his mother was remanded to a mental hospital yesterday to assess if he is capable of entering a plea.

Wang Zhejun, 36, an insurance manager, appeared in Eastern Court accused of killing his mother, Zhan Qiuxia, on Monday at an apartment in Star Street, Wan Chai.

Although not questioned, he twice said 'I did not commit any murder' in Putonghua in a low and inarticulate voice from the dock.

Wang was remanded to stay in Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre until March 13 while two psychiatric reports were compiled.

Wang's father, Wang Xianzhang, was the former chairman of China Life Insurance - a company listed in Hong Kong, the mainland and New York - from 2000 to July 2005.

Wang Xianzhang is also a delegate of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and chairman of the Insurance Association of China.
