Street Fighter to take another swing at movie-goers with a little local help

It didn't fare too well originally as a Jean-Claude Van Damme vehicle, but movie producers are giving the old-school video game Street Fighter another shot as a martial arts action franchise - and this time some of it will apparently be shot here.

Movie industry trade publication Variety recently reported that a new film version of the popular arcade game will begin shooting this month. Among the actors signed for lead roles in the fighting competition game are Michael Clarke Duncan, Chris Klein, Rick Yune and half-Chinese actress Kristin Kreuk (Lana from the Superman series Smallville) in the lead role of female butt-kicker Chun-Li. Hong Kong will be represented in the crew with Shaw Brothers-era martial arts great Cheng Pei-pei (left), apparently featured in a smaller role, and action choreographer Dion Lam handling the extreme fighting scenes for Romeo Must Die director Andrzej Bartkowiak. Location shooting is said to include Vancouver, Bangkok and Hong Kong.

Sure, it still sounds like a total B-movie, but we suspect it should be better than the 1994 flick, just because it doesn't include the Muscles from Brussels.
