Former Beyond bassist Steve Wong Ka-keung has denied rumours that he is set to reunite with ex-bandmates Paul Wong Koon-chung and Yip Sai-wing.

This year marks 25 years since Beyond's formation.

Steve Wong (right) said: 'We will be performing at a friend's concert later, but we are going to perform individually, not under the name Beyond. We performed at a music awards ceremony recently, but it wasn't what the media described as an 'ice-breaking' act'.

Beyond was one of the top rock bands in Hong Kong in the late 1980s and early 90s. The band split in 2005 amid rumours that the friendship between Steve Wong and Paul Wong had soured after the death of lead vocalist Wong Ka-kui, Steve Wong's older brother. The singer died in 1993 from internal bleeding after he fell off a stage during a performance in Japan.

The last time the three remaining members of the band played together was on a farewell tour that ended in Singapore in 2005.

All three former bandmates remain active in the music industry; Steve Wong released his third solo album, Tata, last November, and Paul Wong teamed up with Yip for two gigs at the Workers Gymnasium in Beijing last month.
