Where? Groupe 16sur20 is on Elizabeth Street in Nolita, New York, where downtown chic reigns supreme. Quieter and less touristy than neighbouring SoHo, the area's small boutiques, cafes and bars attract models, fashionistas and celebrities.
Who? This store is the sister (or brother) store of Seize sur Vingt - a shop known for its made-to-measure men's suits and shirts. Husband and wife team James and Gwendolyn Jurney envisioned Groupe 16sur20 as a fashion, art and music co-operative.
Fashion finds: the boutique carries men's clothing made by the store's in-house labels, including Obedient Sons, Troglodyte Homunculus, Seize sur Vingt, United Boroughs of New York and Seize sur Vice. Look for tailored yet hip men's clothing such as polo shirts, slim-cut button-downs and cashmere jumpers. To complete the look, men can also shop for a selection of leather footwear by Wolf-Rayet and accessories such as cuff-links and collar stays from Seize sur Vingt.
In keeping with the spirit of a co-operative, unknown fashion designers are invited to create pieces for the store while the Jurneys handle production, quality control and manufacturing.
The vibe: located in a converted factory, the space is dotted with works of art that are often changed. A sports car is the centrepiece of the store, which features cement-clad walls and clothing hanging from racks suspended from the ceiling.
The crowd: young men who are classically stylish with a twist.
