Art promotes respect for animals

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) has launched a drawing competition to raise students' awareness of animal protection.

Sponsored by the Hong Kong Bank Foundation, Little Angels for Animals 2008 Four-Panel Comic Drawing Competition is open to all Primary One to Secondary Three students in Hong Kong.

Students have to submit a four-panel comic strip on the theme of 'Respecting Animals'. The judging panel will comprise renowned local illustrators, including Aken Ng (creator of Ah Lei) and Alice Mak (creator of McMug & McDull).

SPCA hopes the competition will make young people more interested in animal welfare.

'Many young people get a pet out of impulse. They should understand that pet ownership is for life,' said SPCA's education manager, Vivian Chiu Ming-ming.

Entries have to be sent to the Education Department of SPCA (Hong Kong) at 5 Wan Shing Street, Wan Chai by April 18. Winners of the competition will be announced in June and all winning entries will be exhibited at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.
