Lau Chi-yuen is happy to work behind the scenes to produce something unexpected
After the photographer finishes taking pictures of Lau Chi-yuen and his favourite guitars, the 39-year-old independent musician suggests taking his bike to the roof of his house for more portrait shots.
'Musicians are always shown inside their studios with musical instruments in the press. Why don't we try something different?' he suggests.
Lau's penchant for breaking with tradition is reflected in his music career.
Instead of churning out cookie cutter versions of Canto-pop songs, the producer has over the years worked with musicians and artists from diverse backgrounds.
'I like working with Taiwan-based producer Jim Lee the most. I have also helped produce songs for a wide range of singers including Sandy Lam, Andy Hui and Eason Chan,' says Lau.
