What was supposed to be a major press conference to announce the Pang brothers' making of The Storm Riders II, a sequel to Andrew Lau Wai-keung's hit made a decade ago, turned into a personal inquisition for Nicholas Tse Ting-fung on Tuesday afternoon.
Despite sharing the stage with Charlene Choi Cheuk-yin, Ekin Cheng Yee-kin and Aaron Kwok Fu-shing, all eyes were on Tse, who has been out of sight since the nude photos scandal ensnared his wife, Cecilia Cheung Pak-chi.
Tse, who will play the villain in The Storm Riders II, was cool as a cucumber, his wedding band prominently worn around his neck - he claims it's because his finger is twisted - as he denied his marriage is on the rocks.
'My relationship with my wife is very good. The day we got married, I knew exactly what kind of person she was and she knows who I am,' Tse snapped. 'Firstly, this scandal has already passed and, secondly, China is hosting the Olympics, so every Chinese should be ready to tell the world how proud we are by not going on about this shameful episode. Is this what press freedom really stands for?'
He then denied rumours that Cheung is pregnant again, but sarcastically joked that he was working hard on it, before continuing to rebuke the press. 'Is this incident something we should be proud of? Something worth talking about for three months? Should the media be presented with a gold medal? I think it is a disgrace for Hong Kong.' Calm as he was, if looks could kill...
