It's no secret that one reason stars and socialites go to so many fashion events is for the free clothes. The usual arrangement is you show up, you get a dress - and for some celebrities that includes an envelope with a fat cheque.
For the Marc Jacobs spring/summer show at the Convention and Exhibition Centre on Tuesday, the press received a complete list of the gratis garbs worn in the front row.
As is usually the case, the bigger name you are, the higher priced your apparel. So, David Tang Wing-cheung's daughter Victoria was thrown a relatively bargain basement schmatte worth less than HK$3,000, while the Twins' Charlene Choi Cheuk-yin got a HK$50,000 dress, Gigi Leung Wing-kei rocked with a HK$60,000 gown, and Miriam Yeung Chin-wah (right) was adorned in a green and black Christmas tree with a HK$142,900 price tag.
'I always buy his clothes, so today I'm happy they offered me the season's most expensive and striking dress,' Yeung said. 'It's a perfect fit. I used to buy his clothes when I travelled to Europe, but since the euro has appreciated so much I now buy in Hong Kong instead. Retail therapy is good for me.'
Fellow Canto-pop singer Leung is an equally big fan of Jacobs and liked the new season's somewhat deconstructionist looks, even if it meant sacrificing comfort to look good. 'My dress is quite hard to move around in. It's more like a sculpture than a piece of clothing,' Leung said. 'Last winter, I spent HK$100,000 on his collection.'
