Residents give boardwalk idea the thumbs up
Quarry Bay residents yesterday welcomed an open boardwalk beneath the Eastern Corridor - provided dogs and smoking were banned, and there were provisions to protect walkers from falling debris.
Jenny Kong said a boardwalk along the water was a great idea, especially for those who liked to do morning exercises.
Despite being a dog owner, she said animals should be barred. 'Letting dogs on the boardwalk would not work. Dogs would make it dirty.'
Vickie Lau, another dog owner, disagreed, saying dog lovers were generally responsible and observed good animal hygiene.
Ms Lau said she would only use the boardwalk if there was protection from dust and debris. She was also concerned about potential suicide attempts from the walkway and the stench from polluted seawater.
Other nearby residents, such as Andrew Yam, said it should be 'absolutely smoke-free'. He suggested bike paths and snack vendors along the route.
A man who gave his name only as Mr Cheng said walking the entire route could prove tiring so he suggested an extension to provide access to the MTR.
