Parents love their children and want them to be happy. They buy many things for their children and spoil them. This can easily lead to bad habits, such as unhealthy eating. Once they get used to junk food, it's difficult to change the habit.
Childhood obesity is on the rise all over the world, including Hong Kong. One reason may be a traditional Chinese belief that eating a lot brings good fortune.
What's more, Hong Kong children have access to a wide variety of snacks and other unhealthy food. Most snacks contain a lot of fat, sugar or additives and have no nutrients. Children who eat a lot of snacks could suffer from high blood pressure, diabetes or other related illnesses later in life.
Overeating can have adverse effects on children's appearance as well as their self-esteem.
Parents should set a good example for their children. This can encourage them to lead a healthy life.
