Historic adventure with Disney ending

10,000BC Action adventure

The adventure 10,000 BC, written and directed by Roland Emmerich, stars Steven Strait as the young hero D'Leh and Camilla Belle as the damsel in distress.

Besides stampeding woolly mammoths, 10,000 BC does not offer much in any area, be it story, character development or historical accuracy. But it did impress me that early man had such great dental care because every single actor in this movie could do toothpaste ads with their sparkling super-bright straight white teeth.

The movie can be distilled down to your stereotypical 'Hero's Quest' storyline and plot. A young hero with a chiselled jaw goes on a journey to save his village from an unseen bad guy who has also kidnapped the love of his life. The hero meets a bunch of people who help him along in his arduous trek across an inhospitable environment, choc full of nasty things that would like to eat them. He finds bad guy's lair and has a final showdown against insurmountable odds.

He wins spectacularly with a jaw-dropping feat and gets the beautiful girl - cute Disney ending.

The movie is entertaining even given the weak and predictable story. The scene where the hunters go after a woolly mammoth is quite exciting. But don't make the mistake of thinking this movie is historically accurate!

Pyramids did not come along until 6,000 years later and even then they were crude and looked nowhere near anything like the great Pyramid of Giza that this movie portrays.

This flick is much more suited to a Sunday afternoon movie rental than anything else, so save your pocket money.
