This week we test: facial cleanser

Temperature changes, pollution and excess oil can plug your pores. Choose a gentle facial cleanser that won't damage your skin's protective moisture barrier.

Aveda Outer Peace Foaming Cleanser (HK$280/125ml) This uses natural plant extracts to purge your skin of oil, make-up and other impurities. It leaves your face refreshed and soothed, without irritating or drying out your skin.8/10

Ingrid Millet Gentle Aqua-peeling Cleanser (HK$275/125ml)

This exfoliating cleansing gel helps unclog your pores. With a coarse grainy feel, it's effective in removing blemishes from the face. Use it once or twice a week at most. Frequent use may coarsen delicate skin tissues. 7/10

Kiehl's Yerba Mate Tea Cleanser (HK$190/250ml) A light gel cleanser which removes everyday grime - but you'll need makeup remover to get rid of heavy cosmetics. Not great on very dry or very oily skin. Leaves you smelling like a carton of lemon tea - which is good or bad, depending on your tastes! 6/10

Murad Energizing Pomegranate Cleanser (HK$210/150ml)

This dual-action foam, with a pleasing fruity aroma, tightens your pores and rids your face of impurities. Almost guaranteed to leave your face feeling revitalized and freshened. 9/10

Bioderma Atoderm Foaming Gel (HK$198/200ml)

Soap-, preservative- and fragrance-free gel wash. Formulated for people who suffer from dry and sensitive skin, it keeps skin from feeling dry or flaky, gently cleansing and removing dirt and makeup. 7/10
