CityU students win logistics prize with flight proposals
Five City University students won the 2008 Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Student Day championships by suggesting practical strategies for reforming the mainland air logistics industry.
Organised by the CILT, the contest was held earlier this month to encourage students' interest in the logistics and transport industry. This year was the first that students from the University of Macau took place.
Each team was allowed 90 minutes to study a topic and prepare a report to be presented to the judges.
The panel's evaluation was based on the students' understanding and analysis of the topic, the solutions they proposed and the skill with which they presented them.
The winning City University team proposed ideas including transferring excess cargo capacity from commercial to passenger transportation and integrating sea and air freight logistics in their presentation.
The students began preparation two months ago and said teamwork was the key to their victory.
'We understand that everyone has their limitations and strengths, so we worked together to create the best effect,' said Tony Chan Hoi-hong, the winning team member responsible for collecting data.
