Woman charged with trafficking

Customs officers arrested a woman at the airport yesterday after finding 3.14kg of heroin worth HK$1.75 million hidden in a false compartment in her luggage. The woman, 33, who had flown in from Manila, was charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear in Tsuen Wan Court today.

Appeal over missing man

Police appealed for information about Mak Wai, 64, who went missing after leaving his home for the elderly in the Tam Mi Section of Castle Peak Road on March 22. Mak is of medium build and 1.65 metres tall. He has a long face, short black hair and a yellow complexion. He was wearing a black T-shirt, sports trousers and slippers. Anyone with information can call 2666 4499.

Police seize smuggled goods

Marine police seized 27 boxes of computer hard disks worth about HK$600,000 in Tai Po. Officers spotted six men loading goods from a van onto a speedboat at a pier near Tai Po Waterfront Park. The men fled in the speedboat, leaving most of the goods behind.

Motorcyclist dies in taxi crash

A 34-year-old motorcyclist was killed when his vehicle was hit by a taxi at the junction of Tonkin Street West and Lin Cheung Road in Cheung Sha Wan at 9.40pm. A 40-year-old female taxi passenger was also slightly injured.

Alarm over shrinking size of fish

Environmentalists have called for more no-fishing zones after fish in a marine park were found to be smaller than they were 10 years ago. WWF said the average weight of fish in the Hoi Ha Wan Marine Park dropped from about 800 grams in 1997 to 500 grams in 2006. The reduction showed fish populations at Hoi Ha Wan had failed to rebound from already low levels when the park was set up in 1996, it said.

No one won the first prize in last night's draw. The numbers were 3, 4, 16, 32, 45 and 48. The extra number was 23. Three tickets each won second prize of HK$465,685. Third prize paid HK$63,140.
