More than 7,300 applicants have registered to be volunteers for the Beijing Games, the government announced yesterday - a day after the deadline for applications.

The Home Affairs Bureau said two rounds of assessment to shortlist suitable applicants had been carried out and the last two rounds would start this month. This includes a written test to be held on Saturday. Those who pass will be invited to attend selection interviews on April 20.

A bureau spokesman reminded people who applied online in the week beginning March 24 to call the Examination and Assessment Authority on 3628 8191 today if they had not been invited for the written assessment. He said the recruitment of volunteers, including the sending of time notices for recruitment, would be completed next month by the Beijing Organising Committee for the Olympic Games to be held in August.
