Sentencing adjourned for man who 'watches pretty girls'
A man who said he likes to hang around the airport and watch pretty girls will be sentenced at the end of the month on charges of loitering and possession of child pornography.
Grey-haired and gangly Leo Sit Lay-man, 43, arrived at Tsuen Wan Court yesterday wearing a backpack and wheeling a carrier stacked with various objects, including a camera bag and a laptop case, all in matching black.
He was appearing for sentencing on the two charges, to which he had earlier pleaded guilty, but the case was further adjourned until April 30 because Magistrate Don So Man-lung had not received a psychiatric report on Sit.
He was arrested on September 15 at an arrival hall in Terminal 1 at Chek Lap Kok airport after a receptionist at a logistics company booth complained to police that Sit was watching her and had done so since September 2006.
The court heard that initially he sometimes stood close to her booth, staring at her without saying a word. At other times, he stood opposite her booth on higher levels and mimicked her gestures.
The incidents became more frequent a year later and the receptionist found him near her or watching her while she worked elsewhere at the airport. She became concerned for her safety and called police.
Sit was arrested and found to be in possession of four Japanese comic books that included sexual depictions of children.
Sit told police he bought the 'beautiful' comics from Japan in 2003 knowing their content, but did not know they were illegal in Hong Kong. He also said he liked 'to walk around the airport and watch the pretty girls he saw'.
He said he just watched them but never had any physical contact with them.
After the hearing ended at 11am yesterday, the man, wearing thick glasses and a black baseball cap, sat quietly on a bench outside the courtroom reading an English news magazine and eventually left at 3pm.
