Trial therapy: Qi Shiseido Esthetics
What is it? A 30-minute back massage to generate a healthy flow of chi plus a 60-minute facial to rehydrate and firm.
What does it involve?
The therapist begins by giving a brief consultation to analyse skin type. She uses fingers and palms to stimulate pressure points in a Chinese acupressure-style massage. After the massage, makeup is removed and the face is thoroughly cleansed. Next comes a steam extraction to remove blackheads, then a firming mask. Finally, moisturising essence is applied. All products are from Qi Shiseido, which are exclusive to the salon.
What was the atmosphere like?
The treatment room was softly lit and the temperature was comfortable. The heated blanket made me feel relaxed. But occasionally I could hear chatter coming from the next room.
What was good about it?
The facial massage was so soothing that it put me into a state of deep relaxation. By the end, my skin was soft and smooth but there was no immediate firming effect. After the treatment there were plenty of Shiseido makeup products available to try and the therapist gave me makeup tips, which was a great bonus.
What could be improved?
The acupressure was a bit strong for me, which made it difficult to relax. It would be better if the therapist allowed customers to choose the strength of the massage in advance.
How much and where is it?
The treatment costs HK$1,250 for 90 minutes at Qi Shiseido Esthetics, Shop 101-103, Lee Gardens, 33 Hysan Ave, Causeway Bay. First-time clients are entitled to a 25 per cent. Tel: 2907 4128
