Trendy hotel needs stylish and worldly concierge

A brand ambassador who knows what is going on is sought so guests can be kept up to date

This is an opportunity for a motivated person to shine in an organisation that hones talent.

W Hong Kong is seeking a chief concierge as its property opens this August.

Working closely with marketing, public relations, the 'Whatever/Whenever' teams and the 'W Insider & Cool Hunter', the candidate is expected to ascertain what is new in the city for its guests. The chief concierge would be expected to 'work the room' and communicate information to guests.

'The W chief concierge is a brand ambassador for what's cool, in style, funky and all that is now, while also being a trusted source of useful information about local culture, customs and corporate affairs in the city,' said general manager Damon Page.

The candidate was expected to have an inside track on 'what's new, now and next in the city', he said.

The chief concierge should also understand the different frames of mind of the W visitor which, according to the hotel, is a younger, more mobile and more trendy person who is always on-the-go and who counts precision and promptness as keys to success.

W Hotels is the fastest growing member of Starwood's luxury brand group and calls on applicants who want to partake in this exciting opportunity.

'Whether your education was in the arts or in athletics, finance or design, our product offers a direct path to success, and opportunities to enjoy wonderful travel perks and employment opportunities abroad,' Mr Page said.

Someone with strong language and communication skills is sought for the role. But above all, Mr Page said the candidate must be personable, organised and enjoy the presence of people.

'Our ideal candidate knows the ins and outs of Hong Kong,' he said. 'He or she needs to be able to be as at home in a dai pai dong in Jordan as in Drop or Dragon-i. You'll have to possess the moxie to negotiate to ensure a guest gets a table at a full restaurant, backstage passes to an international level event, and also be able to ensure that luggage arrives to a guest room at lightning speed. W's Whatever/Whenever service philosophy is carried out by all members of each hotel, and the chief concierge is one of the centre points.'

Confidence, perseverance, an outgoing persona with diligence and creative thinking abilities and a strong sense of style and understanding of fashion are required. A knowledge of what's cool in Hong Kong, Tokyo, London and New York is also needed to best cater for W's international guest profile.

Candidates who can demonstrate these strengths from studying the brand closely and have an awareness and enthusiasm for specific brand details would have an advantage and would be invited for an audition so that management might 'get to know the real you'.
