Bus firms fail to reach agreement with union

Citybus and New World First Bus failed to agree in their first meeting with union representatives yesterday over demands for wage rises of 7 per cent this year. The Motor Transport Works General Union, representing drivers and maintenance staff, said the firms were prepared to increase wages. But the firms said they had made no such pledge. Rises were dependent on oil prices, and staff performance would also have to be considered.
