The entertainment tycoon behind Qube Sushi and the Qube private club in Central, who prefers to remain anonymous, recently opened his second restaurant, Qube+, which serves Japanese-style Italian fare.

'The economy is improving due to the Olympics,' says Leung Man-hin, operation director for Qube+. 'It's the most suitable time to expand in the food and beverage business. We are planning to open [a third restaurant] Qube shabu shabu in two months.

'We source the freshest, highest-quality ingredients from Japan for our Italian dishes. Japan has the best fish, vegetables and beef. One of our highlights is A5 Wagyu beef from Kagoshima. It's very rare.'

The beef is used in two dishes: as carpaccio with truffles and pecorino (HK$278) and as a roast (HK$358). Other specialities include: black pork belly with dashi risotto and caramelised Fuji apples (left; HK$168); fried Suzuki fish with buttered burdock, raisin and red grapes (HK$248); and braised abalone with crab and cucumber salad, fennel chips and roasted pepper coulis (HK$268). Qube+ serves two-course set lunches for HK$168 plus 10 per cent.

The establishment offers an extensive selection of wines and champagne. 'We have about 30 varieties of red wine - all from Bordeaux. Our oldest vintage is a bottle of Chateau Latour from 1964. We have 20 choices for champagne, ranging from Veuve Clicquot for HK$900 to Cristal for HK$5,400,' says Leung.

Qube+ is at 1/F California Tower, 30 D'Aguilar Street, Lan Kwai Fong, tel: 2526 3880.
