Coated with the distinctive shade of red known as enji, NEC's Versa S5500 notebook computer offers a stylish option for those who need a compact, high-performance laptop on the road. Its tough, magnesium alloy chassis bears the elegant colour obtained from safflower petals and used to dye the kimonos of ancient Japanese nobility. The S5500, which measures 303mm by 231.5mm by 16mm and weighs 1.9kg, runs the 2.2-gigahertz T7500 Intel Core 2 Duo chip - which pumps out the amount of power typically used by a larger notebook - and Intel's 1-gigabyte Turbo Memory, for a fast boot time. It also has a 12.1-inch widescreen display, a 1.3-megapixel Web camera for video conferencing, a 160GB hard drive, the Windows Vista operating system, Wi-fi connectivity and support for high-definition audio and video. It costs HK$11,998.
