Shanghai motoring enthusiast Andy Wang Yiqun is seeking people to join him in a trip to the Hangzhou Bay Bridge early next month to check out whether the 36km crossing is worth recommending to other car fans.

Mr Wang, a member of two car clubs and marketing director of a car magazine, often makes weekend excursions to mainland cities, such as Suzhou and Nanjing .

His longest driving expedition so far was to Wuyuan in Jiangxi last October.

'It took about six hours to reach the village in Wuyuan,' he said. 'We spent three days there and returned to Shanghai. Roads in the mountains were narrow and winding, so it took a bit of time to reach our destination. The scenery in Wuyuan is excellent.'

He thinks it is too early to predict whether the Hangzhou Bay Bridge will be a popular excursion for car fans.

'People tend to go to places they are familiar with,' he said. 'So it will take some time for motoring fans to try the new bridge.'
