Macau workers protest
About 70 Macau workers yesterday marched to demand the government offer subsidies to people hit hard by near-10 per cent inflation. The protesters also demanded action on illegal workers and more subsidised flats.
Land offer for degree institutes
The government would provide land at very cheap rent for institutes that ran associate degree programmes, Education Bureau principal assistant secretary (further education) Daniel Cheng Chung-wai said on RTHK's City Forum. Institutes could also apply to use vacant primary and secondary schools, he said.
Call to lift political awareness
The government has been urged to boost students' political awareness after a survey found only 8 per cent of young people had knowledge of local political issues. Student unionist Felix Lee-yan said such ignorance of government led to indifference about politics.
