I'm hopeful of a deal, says Oasis chairman

The chairman of embattled low-cost carrier Oasis Hong Kong Airlines, the Reverend Raymond Lee Cho-min, said yesterday he was cautiously optimistic about the possibility it would fly again.

With his wife, Priscilla, by his side, Mr Lee said he believed he had 'done a good thing' over the past 18 months. But he expressed regret that he had been unable to satisfactorily realise the start-up airline's potential.

'Everyone has been working very hard and we will continue to do so,' he said.

Mr Lee said he thanked the public for its understanding and support since the airline began service in October 2006 and through to the present difficult period.

'I feel very bad,' he said. 'I'm beyond words about the inconvenience this has caused.'

Mr Lee said the government had also played an invaluable role in containing the fallout from the carrier's insolvency and he was 'looking forward to seeing the hard work lead to a fruitful conclusion'.
