District councillor to face fraud, misconduct charges

Wan Chai district councillor Lee Kai-hung, 48, will appear in Eastern Court today on charges of fraud and misconduct. The Independent Commission Against Corruption alleges he overstated the salaries of four assistants by HK$23,149 in reimbursement applications. He also allegedly made a false claim for allowances that he had hired an assistant who actually was his secretary to handle his private insurance business.

18 hurt in minibus crash

Eighteen people were injured last night when a minibus collided with another minibus that had pulled over in Prince Edward Road East, Kowloon City, near the Regal Oriental Hotel. In another accident, eight people, including a three-year-old boy, were hurt in a head-on collision between a minibus and car in Castle Peak Road in Yuen Long.

Sailor hurt in fall

A mainland sailor injured his back when he fell from the top of a container on a cargo ship off Stonecutters Island at 8.30am. The man, 58, was in a stable condition.

Girl, 15, jumps to her death

A schoolgirl, 15, jumped to her death at Heng On Estate, Ma On Shan, on Tuesday. Police said there were no suspicious circumstances.
