Metal products industry leads decrease in orders

THE volume of Hong Kong manufacturers' orders on hand fell two per cent in December over the same month in 1992, according to the Census and Statistics Department.

The orders in the fabricated metal products industry posted the biggest decline, dropping 12 per cent.

The electrical and electronic products industry reported a one per cent drop, while the apparel and textiles industries showed little change. Only the plastic goods industry showed improvement, up one per cent.

Orders for all the manufacturers remained unchanged compared with November.

The plastic products industry registered the highest growth, with orders soaring nine per cent.

The textiles industry was up three per cent, while the apparel industry gained two per cent.
