Olaf Sabatschus of Germany won yesterday's inaugural Ironman China on Hainan Island in a time of eight hours, 52 minutes and 14 seconds. The race - a 3.8km sea swim, 100km bike ride and 42km run - was staged in hot conditions but, despite the bad weather that loomed in the days before, organisers said the race went according to plan. Australian Belinda Granger won the women's race in 10:8.37, ahead of Donna Phelan and Abigail Bailey. Park Byung-hoon and Tim Marr finished second and third in the men's event.
