Murders up 11 on same quarter last year

Police reported 14 murders in the first three months of the year, 11 more than last year. But Secretary for Security Ambrose Lee Siu-kwong said crime and violence cases dropped by 6.1 per cent and 4.9 per cent, respectively, due mainly to fewer thefts, woundings and serious assaults. Seizures of cannabis and methamphetamine, or Ice, dropped by almost 100 per cent, and the number of mainland illegal immigrants caught fell by 60.7 per cent, from 107 to 42.
