Watch and fashion shows add glamour to prestige event
Hats, gloves, high heels and suits of every description - tomorrow's race will be a visual feast for the style conscious. To add to the glamour of the event, the Hong Kong Jockey Club is hosting four watch and fashion shows featuring television stars Bernice Liu Bik-yee and Kevin Cheng Ka-wing and top model Kathy Chow Man-kei. Department store Seibu will provide the outfits.
'This cup race is one of the biggest events on the racing calendar, and Seibu is pleased to be the first department store to sponsor the annual fashion show,' said Julia Ie, head of personal shopping at Seibu.
The shows will be held after the second, third, fourth and fifth races at the parade ring and will feature a range of clothes, from elegant evening wear and slinky cocktail numbers to stylish day wear. For day wear, bold floral prints - a hot trend this season - will be prevalent.
Bernice, Kevin and Kathy will look glamorous in evening wear and shimmering cocktail dresses. 'We think they should be quite formal as they are our celebrity guests and, most important of all, we respect this cup race for being a prestigious and traditional event,' Ms Ie said.
For those not taking part in the fashion show, the AP QEII is still the perfect opportunity to dress up. Ms Ie suggested that women stuck to tradition and wear hats and gloves. A dash of colour added creativity.
'Women could go for bright floral patterns while men could play around with wearing a bright T-shirt underneath their suit or jacket,' Ms Ie said. 'This will look smart for a sunny outdoor event.'
