Mount Sapphire looking like gem

KEEP an eye open for Mount Sapphire after an excellent run in the first event yesterday when he finished fourth to facile winner Cruise Missile.

The 1,400-metre trip was on the short side for Mount Sapphire who worked home well for claimer Vicki C. W. Choi. This was his first run back in two months and will have him neatly set up for a longer event shortly at either course.

It should also be noted that the gelding sweated up before the start.

Mount Sapphire is trained by Wong Tang-ping and he will get a race out of Action Win, who was totally unwanted at 99-1 in the second event. Action Win came home fairly in the 1,400-metre event and it is questionable as to how much damage was possibly done to the horse by the extravagant whip action used. Not much contact was made.

Action Win is looking increasingly well placed in Class Five. Betting will eventually be the best guide.

In fact, Wong is likely to have another winner from yesterday's beaten brigade. Treasure was a hot-pot in the seventh but struck trouble at a vital stage and may also need longer than 1,600 metres.
