Hep B cloud may have silver lining
University of Hong Kong researchers have pioneered a new approach to developing drugs in the fight against the hepatitis B virus (HBV). They revealed yesterday that HBV replication in test tubes was reduced by 50 per cent in the presence of silver particles 5 to 50 nanometres in diameter. The team hoped the finding would be useful for developing anti-HBV drugs in the next three to five years. There are an estimated 700,000 hepatitis B patients in Hong Kong.
