Sweet indulgence

All mothers love chocolates, and Mother's Day is the perfect excuse to indulge. Chocolux Bar in SoHo (57Peel Street, Central, 28588760) is an ideal spot to take your mum for breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea. It is cosy and comfortable, and the menu features a range of French fare from savoury crepes and sandwiches to hand-crafted macaroons, truffles and hot brownie sundaes. Only natural, high-quality cacao in percentages ranging from 55 to 72 are used in drinks (including cocktails), desserts and cookies. Chocolux recently opened a cafe in Three Pacific Place (Shop3, B3, 29189892) and both venues have a double chocolate cake (HK$180) in a limited edition box on offer especially for Mother's Day. Cakes must be ordered two days in advance. The eatery is also hosting a Mother's Day eclair-making class on May 11 from 3pm to 5pm. It costs HK$300 for a mother or father and child plus HK$100 per extra person. To book, call 25801808.

Belgian chocolatier Leonidas has designed a personal chocolate box (HK$350) to mark Mother's Day. The attractive red box contains a photo frame for a touching photo and a voice recorder so you can record a message of love and thanks for your mother to listen to. It also contains chocolates - a range of mouth-watering fresh Belgian delights. The Leonidas restaurant and chocolate counter is in IFC Mall (Shop1050, 8Finance Street, Central, 22347343). There are also shops in Sogo in Causeway Bay, Harbour City in Tsim Sha Tsui, MegaBox Mall in Kowloon Bay, Maritime Square in Tsing Yi and Seiyu Department Store in Sha Tin. Proceeds will go to Benji's Centre, in support of poor children's speech therapy.

If your mum has a sweet tooth but is concerned about being too indulgent, Agnes b. Delices has launched two ranges of low-sugar dark chocolates. The high cocoa percentage of dark chocolate means it is lower in fat and sugar, and rich in antioxidants. The dark chocolate gift set (HK$99) has two new flavours: blueberry and raspberry. The chocolates come in a box featuring red roses photographed by Agnes b. The low-sugar dark chocolate with mixed nuts range (HK$98/100g) includes almond, hazelnut and cashew nuts. Nuts are rich sources of protein, fibre, and vitamin B and E - to let your mum enjoy her gift guilt-free. Agnes b. Delices has four shops in Hong Kong, in Fashion Walk in Causeway Bay (25770338), the Sun Arcade and Harbour City in Tsim Sha Tsui, and the APM mall in Kwun Tong.

Another sweet option for desserts with a personal touch is Complete Deelite (6/F California Entertainment Building, 34-36 D'Aguilar Street, Lan Kwai Fong, 31677022). The outlet has a range of cakes for order (HK$450-HK$1,900), from towering chocolate layers with delicate flower decorations to bright pink cupcakes. They can also scan a photo of your loved one and have it printed on a cake in coloured, edible icing. For Mother's Day, a photo of you and mum can be scanned on to a cake (a 900 gram cake costs HK$480) or a jumbo cupcake (HK$100 each) but five days notice is needed. The company also sells Wilton cake decorating products, party supplies and balloons, and hosts classes on baking and decorating cakes.
