Finding the Dream

Finding the Dream

by Nora Roberts

If the name Nora Roberts means nothing to you, then examine a best-seller list: the prolific Roberts (who also writes thrillers under the pseudonym J.D. Robb) sells enough books to give J.K. Rowling a run for her mountain ranges of money. Apparently, there are more than 280 million copies of Roberts' work in print, of which 12 million were sold in 2005 alone. Beat that Rowling. All this success begs one central question: if Roberts is so huge, why isn't she better known? The simple answer is that she writes romance novels - the genre that inspires more snobbery than science fiction, horror and crime combined, and almost as many sales. Finding the Dream completes a trilogy (a Roberts speciality) that began with Daring to Dream and continued with Holding the Dream. Robert's appeal lies in her wholehearted, emotional stories that speak to women (in the main) about their lives, dreams, fears and aspirations. In this case, an unhappy divorcee (Laura Templeton) finds herself attracted to the most unsuitable but handsome cad this side of Colin Farrell. Granted, you will read sentences like 'Michael, would you have ravished me?' But who doesn't need a good ravishing now and then?
