Certainly, the German appliance maker went all out to make a promotional statement last week, unveiling a very high-end range of kitchen apparatus. The new slogan is 'Above All', so what better visual representation of that motto than to charter a couple of Peak Trams and take the guests and media up to The Peak.

Against the backdrop of the glittering harbour at Pearl on the Peak, everyone had a chance to marvel at some sleek new ovens, steamers and coffee makers.

A drum roll thundered as a prelude to the main event: the debut of Miele's state-of-the-art 90cm-wide Emperor Oven (pictured), which goes for a hefty HK$100,000. Its width allows you to cook three chickens at once - but one guest brought the hype back down to Earth by noting that, height-wise, 'it's never going to fit a North American turkey'.
