Artists juggle ballet and circus
A performance that combines ballet and circus is set to thrill Hong Kong's theatregoers next month.
Rain/Bow, organised by Le French May, is the result of years of juggling practice.
The artists use movements and manipulation of objects to stage a magical show.
Originally written for a jugglers' troupe to improve their movements, the show is divided into two parts - Rain and Bow - which explore two different ways of creation.
Rain is sustained by the surprising and emotional music of Austrian composer Max Nagl.
This juggling ballet is full of mystery and sensuality, and includes classic juggling props like balls, clubs, sticks and rings.
Bow is the opposite - it is an explosion of colours and funny costumes, and is a tribute to circus and cabaret.
Jugglers can pick up any object they like, ranging from umbrellas and brooms to feathers, and use them in all kinds of ways.
Juggling is mixed with different forms of expression, and the artists build a show from what they have at hand.
Rain/Bow, choreographed by Jerome Thomas, was first performed in February 2006.
It will be staged on June 2 and 3 (8pm) at Kwai Tsing Theatre. Tickets range from HK$150 to HK$300.
