Subaru hatches its latest fastie

The new Subaru Impreza WRX Sti returns as a hatchback with 'greater driver involvement', says Motor Image spokesman Marco Tsang. The new model (right, HK$359,000) has a 300-horsepower turbocharged version of its 2.5-litre boxer engine 'which includes a larger, more efficient intercooler to increase power', Tsang says.

The interior is plushed up with bucket Tricot seats and eight airbags, the marque says. We look forward to testing the WRX Sti but we're taking a while to get used to the new design.

Meanwhile, you can see a range of Subarus in the main atrium of Tuen Mun Plaza on May 17-18. The 1.5-litre Impreza and the Legacy 2.0 wagon and saloons are worth a look, but you might recall our concerns about the safety of Subaru's R1 and R2 kei cars. Both are sold for under HK$100,000 as green cars earning first registration tax discounts under the Environmental Protection Department's weight-conscious criteria, but Subaru still needs to convince us the kei duo are as crash safe for similar money as, say, second-hand Minis, Smart ForTwos, Renaults and Mercedes-Benzes.

Bentley banks on Brooklands

Bentley Hong Kong will unveil the Brooklands for an unknown price at 5.30pm on May 14 at its Bonaventure House showroom in Causeway Bay's Leighton Road. First shown at Geneva last year, the 6.75-litre, 530bhp V8 Brooklands (left) has been designed to offer Arnage T handling, Arnage R comfort and supercar vroom with the promise of 100km/h sprints in 5.3 seconds and a top speed of 296km/h. Only 550 of these coupes will be built, the marque says.
