Green creativity wins recognition

Students' creativity was on display as China Light and Power (CLP) announced the winning entries of its latest green competition, 'Climate and You', on its newly launched education portal, PowerU.

The competition, which invited young people to suggest ideas for sensible use of power and a green lifestyle, was very popular among students.

It attracted more than 600 entries, and for each entry, CLP has pledged to plant a tree in Hong Kong or on the mainland. The public had the opportunity to vote online for the submissions in March, and the shortlisted entries were reviewed by a panel of judges.

Some of the winning ideas included 'Full-scale litter separation at home to facilitate recycling', 'Making the World Environment Day a public holiday to encourage tree-planting activities' and 'Winning Octopus points for a green lifestyle like using less plastic bags or choosing to travel by non-air-conditioned buses'.

PowerU is an interactive platform designed to facilitate learning about the energy industry and other environmental concepts.

The site covers a wide range of topics including the history and development of the power industry, energy resources, climate change, air quality, and energy efficiency and sustainability. PowerU also serves as a supplement to the conventional school curriculum and help teachers to conduct classroom activities.
