Material differences Folli Follie

Acetate casings are giving watches a distinct style, look and feel

Last year it was Corian, this year it is acetate. While the rest of the world still clings on to ceramic for a smooth and polished casing, Folli Follie comes out with yet another innovative fashion statement for the trend-savvy watch enthusiast.

The brand's Urban Chic collection features acetate, a material that lends the new timepieces a sleek, stylish look. While some of the watches feature the acetate watch casing in all its classic, hand-polished simplicity, the larger-sized versions showcase a unique rippling effect in their case designs.

By using different ingredients and working in numerous colour layers by hand, these watch casings end up with a number of darker concentric rings not unlike the rings seen within a tree trunk.

The fact that the effect is done by hand means that the designs on each of the timepieces are unique. Straps come in either rubber or perforated leather, and the watches come in white, black, brown and grey, and a variety of sizes in order to suit a wide range of tastes.

All the timepieces have luminous hands and date indicators, while decorations on the dial consist of a solid bronze ring on some, and a tri-colour ring on others.

Rose gold colouring is rife in the watch industry and little touches of it are prevalent throughout the brand's collections, appearing on the stainless steel case backs and buckles of the Urban Chic collection, and some of the cases and bezels of the new Olyteus collection.

Folli Follie looks back to its Greek roots with this men's collection, which is inspired by Olyteus (an archaic variant of Odysseus), who is famous for his epic journey back to Ithaca after the fall of Troy, and the new chronograph watch pays tribute to his quest and adventures.

The new collection features four watches with hour, second and minute counters at the 3o'clock, 6o'clock and 9o'clock positions, with start and stop push buttons on either side of the crown at 2o'clock and 4o'clock, and a date indicator between 4o'clock and 5o'clock on the dial.

One of the versions comes in a plain stainless steel case, the other three come in stainless steel cases coloured in rose gold, black, and rose gold with a black bezel. The 46mm-diameter watches all come with black dials and luminous white indexes, complete with a black rubber strap with a stainless steel buckle.
