C is for craft Bertolucci

Creativity, curves, comfort and construction form the cornerstones of the brand's stunning new collections

For some, Bertolucci may be a breath of fresh air in an industry that continually strives to come up with the newest mechanical movement or the best crafted complication.

Dedicated primarily to women, the brand steers the focus away from technical complications and concentrates instead on the aesthetics and femininity of the timepiece.

Yasmina Pedrini, communication officer at Bertolucci, said that its watches could be best described as having 'a Mediterranean inspiration combined with Swiss craftsmanship', and that the company had come up with its own basis for excellence.

'Similar to the way in which diamonds are assessed by the four Cs - cut, colour, clarity and carat, we have established our own four Cs to serve as the essence of our brand,' said Ms Pedrini. She said their four Cs stood for creativity, curves, comfort and construction, and that their new models this year are particularly representative of these.

Bertolucci consists of three main collections - Haute Couture, with its limited, top-of-the-line jewellery watches, Distinction, in all its classical elegance, and the trendy, light-hearted Casual Chic line.

The new Ouni jewellery watch from the Haute Couture collection is a perfect example of how Mediterranean influences play into the brand's aesthetics. Modelling its shape after the Mediterranean sea urchin, the watch is 36mm in diameter and mimics the warm splashes of colour from the Italian Riviera with the 36 diamonds and 89 red beryls, pink sapphires, and orange spessartites adorning its case. The strap is red calf leather, and the dial base is warm red mother-of-pearl.

Those looking for a daintier version without sacrificing sparkle will go for the new Ouni Mini watch. The 28mm diameter yellow gold case has full cut pink sapphires, light green peridots and emeralds set with 89 sapphires and green tsavorites. The watch comes with a green satin strap and a yellow gold clasp.

For a lot of elegance, the Distinction collection is introducing a new Voglia watch this year. The black lacquered dial blends in sleekly with the black calf strap, set off only by the stainless steel case paved with a double row of full cut diamonds in a 'wasp waist' formation on either side of the dial. The diamonds extend down the sides of the case, with a total count of 277 diamonds. A rose gold version is available with a chocolate lacquered dial and a chocolate calf strap, with a total of 116 diamonds.

Finally, for those looking for a fun day watch, the Casual Chic collection doesn't disappoint. The new Doppia watch exudes femininity with its butterfly motif, colours are soft blue and purple on white, and the overall effect is light-hearted and fun. The case is half solid glass on top, half stainless steel on the bottom, creating an intriguing layered effect with the decor and the dial.
