Paris couturier's wedding dresses a real revelation

Apparently weddings in France can be sexy as well as traditional. Gallic jeweller Van Cleef & Arpels is displaying wedding dresses by Paris couturier Eymeric Francois (above), paired with its new 'French Kiss' bridal blings, at the Landmark Atrium until tomorrow.

But some of them are so daring, they're more like bridal lingerie than gowns. In fact, not all the dresses were featured during Wednesday's cocktail fashion show.

'A couple of them you can see we left on mannequins. They're a little too revealing to be modest,' a Van Cleef & Arpels spokesman revealed.

When introduced to the guests, the baby-faced rising fashion star also surprised some guests. 'He's so young,' many tai-tais gushed.

You can tell Francois is a fashion renegade. A jacket without a shirt is a major faux pas to the sartorial judges on Project Runway. Despite his youth, though, Francois is no overnight novice.

'I have had a wedding collection out for four years in France and Japan,' he said. 'There are some very elegant princess-like gowns but also some sexy things with lace and see-through. This is my first time in Hong Kong but I've been to Japan many times. It's very immediate there. People like something, they'll say yes right away. In Paris, it takes a long time. People will say 'I'll think about it' and come back years later.'

Speaking of new bridal wear, Yolanda Choy Yee-lin of Central Weddings was at the event and asked to pass on word of a Monique Lhuillier bridal trunk show tomorrow until Wednesday at its Landmark basement boutique. Done.
