Facts laid bear at fund-raiser
Animals Asia Foundation held a fund-raiser called The 11th Hour at the Landmark Mandarin Oriental's Tian and Di Rooms this month to highlight the dangers faced by bears on the mainland.
Founder and CEO Jill Robinson gave a 20-minute presentation and updated guests on the Moon Bear Rescue Centre in Chengdu, Sichuan province, which was affected by the earthquake.
Raffle tickets were sold and prizes auctioned, including framed paw prints of rescued bears, a basketball autographed by basketball player Yao Ming and a jersey signed by footballer David Beckham.
Animal lovers supporting the event included Frank Pong Fai, Harriet Tung, SPCA ambassador Gigi Fu Ming-hin, singer Karen Mok Man-wai and her family, Rosemary Vandenbroucke, filmmaker Libby Halliday and her husband Michael Palin.
